Another school year is in the books, and our hearts are full.
We thank God for another safe and successful year at God’s Vision for Haiti Christian Academy.
One of the most meaningful moments came on Friday afternoon as we celebrated our students completing their final year of kindergarten. Here in Haiti, kindergarten includes three preschool years before children begin 1st grade.
We couldn’t help but smile.
Three years ago, they were among the very first preschoolers to walk through our doors. Some were excited. Some were nervous. A few cried. One or two even tried to sneak out of the classroom!
Now, those same little ones are standing a little taller, smiling a little bigger, and in just a few months they’ll begin 1st grade.
Watching them grow has been one of our greatest joys.
Another exciting milestone happened this week.
Back in January, we joined Cadeau Vert (“Green Gift”), a school initiative built around one simple idea:
Every student grows a tree every school year.
Yesterday, we celebrated our very first Journée Verte (Green Day). We welcomed school leaders from across our region to learn about the program and invited them to join us in helping restore Haiti’s beautiful landscape through local, sustainable tree planting.
Then our 3rd through 5th graders and school staff rolled up their sleeves and planted 65 trees of their own.
It was more than planting trees. It was planting hope, responsibility, and a love for God’s creation.
And now as one school year has come to an end, we’re already preparing for the next!
This fall, we’ll be opening a 6th-grade classroom as our students continue growing with us.
