When our family moved to Les Cayes to officially begin the work of God’s Vision for Haiti, we had a plan.

We would settle in. Build relationships. Learn the community. Study the needs. And begin exploring how God might want GVFH to serve.

That was our plan.

But it didn’t take long for God to begin opening doors.

Just six months after we arrived, Pastor Mike Bradley came to Haiti to lead GVFH’s very first pastors training.

And 42 pastors showed up.

They gathered together, eager to learn and grow as Pastor Mike taught on “Grace Life.”

Looking back, it’s amazing to think about. We were still new to Les Cayes. We were still learning, building relationships, and discovering what God’s Vision for Haiti would eventually become.

And yet God was already giving us opportunities to invest in local pastors who were serving churches and communities of their own.

And that first gathering didn’t end when the workshop was over.

Since then, GVFH has hosted several more pastor trainings, and we’re already planning another for next year. We’ve found again and again that these pastors are eager for opportunities to deepen their knowledge of God and become better equipped to serve their churches.

But something else grew out of those relationships that we couldn’t have anticipated.

As pastors learned more about GVFH, many were introduced to our Foster Care ministry. Some eventually became foster parents themselves. Others opened the doors of their churches and gave us opportunities to share about the need for foster families with their congregations.

What began as an opportunity to equip 42 pastors became an opportunity to build relationships, strengthen churches, and ultimately help vulnerable children find families.

That’s something we’ve seen again and again throughout these first 10 years:

We couldn’t always see where the next step would lead. We simply tried to be faithful when God opened the door.

As we look toward the next 10 years, we’re excited that pastors continue to want to learn, grow, and serve their communities – and we’re looking forward to gathering with them again next year.

Please pray for these pastors and churches throughout Haiti. Pray that God will continue to strengthen them, deepen their faith, and use them to bring hope and transformation to their communities.
