Dear friends,
As we shared a few weeks ago, our prayer this year is to see our Foster Care Pillar fully funded. This program serves some of the most vulnerable children in southern Haiti — and while it is our most costly pillar, it is also the least funded.
Today, we want to share how one church is helping make that prayer a reality in a creative and inspiring way.
Together Church in Wyoming, Michigan has partnered with God’s Vision for Haiti for many years, including hosting our annual fundraising event each October. Recently, they felt led to step into an even deeper level of partnership by focusing specifically on our foster care program.
What made this connection especially meaningful is that Together Church already has a strong local passion for caring for orphans and vulnerable children through their Closet of Hope ministry, which provides meals, clothing, and resources to foster and adoptive families across West Michigan. As they learned more about foster care in Haiti, they realized their local and global passions were beautifully aligned.
The church formed a new missions team that met with us several times via Zoom to learn about our foster care program and its needs. In September, they hosted a “Forks Up for Haiti” event, where we shared about the ministry, enjoyed a Haitian meal together, and collected hygiene and personal care items to create care packs for children entering foster care.
One member of Together Church’s missions team, Kris Burghgraef, took this partnership a step further. As an author, Kris had the creative idea to develop a children’s Bible story series that could be published in Creole for use in Haiti, as well as in English, Khmer, and Nepali. Even more incredibly, proceeds from these books support GVFH’s Foster Care Program.
We have been deeply encouraged by Kris’ creativity and by Together Church’s willingness to think outside the box in supporting vulnerable children.
If you or your church are wondering how you might support foster care in meaningful and creative ways, here are several ideas to consider:
- Purchase these Bible story books as Christmas gifts or for your church’s children’s ministry.
- Give a one-time or recurring gift designated toward Foster Care. Your generosity helps provide essentials like healthcare, school support, home visits, and caregiver training.
- Reach out to us — we would love to brainstorm ideas together and explore how your passions might connect with this life-changing work.
Thank you for continuing to stand with us as we care for children and families in Haiti. We are so grateful for the many ways God is moving through His people.
