Today, we share about our Foster Care pillar. Just like everything else in Haiti, the area of child welfare is highly impacted by the depths of poverty, and this lack of resources causes people to make unimaginable decisions, so the need to advocate and allow these children the opportunity for a better future is immense.
We believe that “every child deserves their own family”, so family comes first – whether it is placing an abandoned child into a loving family, reuniting a child with biological relatives, or raising awareness that promotes the importance of keeping families together.
With close partnership with the local IBESR team (social services), here is what the Foster Care pillar looks like today:
- This year
- 17 children placed into loving families
- 4 children reunited with their biological relatives
- 2 activities for foster families
- 1 foster parent training session
- 2 awareness sessions
- To date
- 94 children touched by the program
- 48 children are currently placed
- 40 children reunified
God uses ordinary families to accomplish extraordinary things in the lives of the vulnerable children we work with. These foster families are heroes who are obedient to God’s calling to take in these children expecting nothing in return. Just this morning, together with IBESR we were able to honor these incredible families who currently have children placed in their home as well as those who took in children during this year, and thanks to LifePoint Church at the end of the celebration, all of the children currently placed and the biological children of the foster families received Christmas gifts!
Thank you for spending time this month to learn about the work of GVFH ministry through our ministry pillars. It is truly an honor to serve here in Haiti with you!
Thanking God for you, and for His loving care of these precious children,
Juska and Jona
