As we celebrate God’s Vision for Haiti’s 10th anniversary over the next few months, we want to look back at some of the moments that shaped who we are today.

It seems fitting to begin with one of the most unforgettable.

Eight years ago we received a phone call we had been praying for.

Two boys – just 15 months and 6 years old – had been abandoned and were ready to leave the hospital. Both had been admitted with severe malnutrition. Both had been left behind by their families. Both desperately needed more than medical care – they needed a family.

Within hours, we began calling the foster parents God had already prepared.

One family had originally hoped to foster a little girl. But when they heard about the 15-month-old boy, the foster mother simply said, “He needs a family, and we’re ready.”

The older boy was placed with an experienced nurse who was uniquely equipped to care for his ongoing health needs.

Looking back now, it’s clear that God had been preparing these families long before that phone call ever came.

Almost immediately, we watched both boys begin to change. Love, stability, and family transformed lives that had already experienced so much loss.

One foster father said something we’ll never forget:

“If someone wants to know what God’s Vision for Haiti is all about, just look at these two boys. Even if the Lazarre family came to Haiti for just these two children, the mission is accomplished.”

His words reminded us that ministry is never measured only by numbers. Every child matters. Every family matters. Every life changed is worth celebrating.

Those first two placements became the beginning of something much bigger than we could have imagined.

Today, eight years later, dozens of children have experienced the love, safety, and stability of family through God’s Vision for Haiti’s Foster Care Ministry. What began with two boys has grown into a ministry that continues to restore hope – one child, one family, and one story at a time.
